Individual Assignment: PSA TV (Merdeka)

Peace be upon you.

Here is my individual assignment which is a PSA for TV and the theme given was Independence Day (Malaysia). The task requires a treatment, a synopsis, a full script and also a storyboard. However, I have forgotten to snap a picture of my storyboard so there will be no download link for it. Nevertheless, enjoy the rest of the script. Teehee.

Synopsis

Adnan is cleaning his store when he finds a box filled with old photo albums. He finds an old photo of him with his late father at the Dataran Merdeka during the Independence Day circa 1980’s. He looks at the photo and reminisces the memory where he used to go to watch the parade at the Dataran Merdeka. He cherished the moments. In the future, he goes to the Dataran Merdeka again together with his family to celebrate the Independence Day.

Treatment

It is morning. Adnan and his wife are cleaning the store room where he finds a box filled with old photo albums. He takes a look at one of it and finds an old photo of him and his late father at a parade in Dataran Merdeka during the Independence Day circa 1980’s. He then flashes back the moment in the photo and back in the present, he remembers that he has not been to the parade for quite a long time. In the end, Adnan and his family go to the Dataran Merdeka again in the future to celebrate and they shout “Merdeka” together with the crowds.

AUDIO SFX: Furniture dragging, rubbish swept from the floor. Slow music playing on the radio in the background. SFX: Man sighing. Box slowly puts down on the floor and man blows dust from the cover of the box. SFX: Nostalgic music plays in the background slowly. VO: “I remember back then I always follow dad to watch the parades during the Independence Day. Dad always reminds me to appreciate the day as he said the day would never happen if it’s not because of the blood, sweat and tears of our fallen warriors that fought for the independence.” VO: “I missed those moments. It’s been a while since the last time I went to the parade.” SFX: Crowds chattering in the background. Footsteps approaching. VO: “To all the fallen warriors, thank you.” SFX: “Merdeka” shouts by Tunku Abd Rahman plays in the background.

VIDEO WS//FADE IN: Adnan is pushing the book rack to the edge while his wife in the back is sweeping the floor. SPLIT SCREENS: Adnan picks up a box, blows the dust and opens it. Another screen, Adnan finds an old photo album. OTS: Adnan looks at the photo album and finds an old photo of him and his late father at the parade in Dataran Merdeka during the Independence Day. CU//ZOOM IN: Shot of the old photo of him and his late father. WS//FADE OUT: Young Adnan walk together with his father to the see the parade. MCU: Young Adnan shouts “Merdeka” and waves the national flag. WS//DISSOLVE: Adnan walks together with his wife and his son to the parade in Dataran Merdeka. MCU: Adnan waves the national flag while shouting “Merdeka’ together with the crowds. FADE OUT TO BLACK: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, MALAYSIA.
